We take play seriously!
When Ripponlea Vet Hospital was conceived we resolved to dedicate as much space to our Puppy Playcenter as we did to our elite treatment and surgical facilities.
So, why does a vet hospital place so much emphasis on puppy play?
Everyday we are in the sad position of trying to help dogs with behavioural problems cope with their scary world. Many of these dogs missed out on the opportunity to have important doggy experiences early in their lives, with ongoing behavioural problems being a common result.
We believe socialisation and supervised play are two of the most important experiences you can provide your pup. Our playcenter is the perfect environment to conduct our positive puppy preschool programme; the space also provides a safe place for pups to meet and burn off their training treats, all whilst ensuring a visit to the vet is a happy and fear-free experience.

What happens at puppy preschool?
Over four weeks in Ripponlea’s exclusive Puppy Playcenter, pet parents and baby dogs can learn vital skills to live happily in our shared world. Early positive socialisation with unfamiliar people and a range of different puppies is key.
Pet parents will learn to interpret their puppy's body language and use rewards to reinforce positive social experiences. Included in our courses are tuition in basic commands with highly qualified dog trainer Dr Melanie, as well as grooming, medical and nutritional advice from vet nurse Michelle.
Attending puppy preschool at Ripponlea means that future vet visits should rekindle happy memories for your dog. This is fundamental to our goal of making all vet visits free of fear.
We practice mock vet exams with rewards, learning games and controlled play time to build fond associations with the vet. We love seeing our graduates make a bee-line for the door every time you walk by!
Puppies develop their social skills between 8 and16 weeks of age, so it is important - no matter how small your pup - to enrol early. We regularly run classes, please call 8488 8889 or email to enrol or ask questions.
